Something To Try !

This is simple enough to do at home and better yet, inexpensive. This idea is derived from the famous Louboutin heels! Not too many of us would think of painting the underside of our nails bit it looks amazing.

Long Time

It's been quite a while since our last post.... But hey we are back! We vow to bring you more vintage wonders.
We have been on the move and have gone all over L.A. looking for furniture. In our journey we found a wonderful spot named Wertz Brothers Furniture. While not everything in the store is vintage or antique it's still fun looking at all the cabinets, armoires, dressers, and desks. The staff is very friendly, helpful, and are honest about what you are about to purchase. We bought two 1910-1920 walnut, french style bed frames (pictures coming soon!). They have two locations, one is the furniture store (1607 Lincoln Blvd. Santa Monica, CA) and the other is an antique mart (11879 Santa Monica Blvd. West Los Angeles, CA) with 106 booths and 84 cases! We are making plans to visit the antique mart soon as well.

How to enjoy the sun in style!

On our search for some awesome specs for this spring we came across some pretty amazing Ray-bans. They're Ray-Ban's 5226 eyeglass collection and come in five prints, I chose the striped avana RB5226-2144. You can't get them directly from the Ray-Ban site but you can find them on amazon or other optics websites. I love these because they're cat eye frames and I won't be afraid to use them since they aren't any of my favorite authentic vintage frames! Even though they are Rx frames I got nonprescription green lenses put in, just in time for these warm sunny days! What are your favorite summer time specs?

Vintage style bicycle project update

A little while ago we did a post on our bicycle project. We wanted to take a couple of cheap bikes we had, and to save some money we decided to overhaul these bikes. We took the them apart, making sure to keep the parts in bags. We sanded the old paint, once with a medium grit sand paper and again with a smooth grit. After or before sanding you can wash the frame and all the parts that are gonna get painted with dish soap to remove any grease. I like washing the frame after sanding so any dust left behind can be removed. Let it all dry and now you can spray the primer. We purchased all the paints at Home Depot. I chose almond and teal and my sister Geraldine chose flat black and pink. Here's where we're at so far. :)

Straw is back!

It seems that every year straw bags are never absent from the store shelves. But should it? It's perfect for the beach or wear around town on a warm day. It looks like it's no longer limited to just a beach bag either; earlier this month we spotted some odd (ugly?) slip-on sneakers! We also saw some adorable peep toe flats.... perfect for the beach. At any rate, we will always be fans of the straw bag.

Pantone color of the year

Suddenly.... a burst of ORANGE! Everywhere you go it calls your attention . . .
Flipping through magazines and shopping around town we've noticed, orange is all the rage. Looking at Pantone's website I found out the color of the year is called Tangerine Tango! Pantone comes up with a new color every year and this year it's: Pantone 17-1463 . We all see and interpret color differently, so Pantone company has made a standardized way for communicating color accurately across many types of industries. So go out in style with a little Tangerine in your outfit!

vintage style bicycle project

Hey guys and gals!
With the on coming of the glorious spring weather, we got the urge to head out and bike ride. 'Wouldn't it be great if we had vintage bicycles to ride?' we thought. Sadly, we don't have the cash to either get new bikes or much less for amazing vintage ones. However, that did not stop us! A while back we got a beach cruiser and one of those thin racing bikes that are popular now. They're both old, perhaps from the 80s. They were free since they had some issues. So we decided to make due and DIY this whole project. We want to get a vintage look for less! Bellow are our before pictures. Not too great looking right?

"A Ride of Death"

Thought this was interesting. Here's a few pages from a 40's pamphlet on bicycle safety. So, these are some things to keep in mind next time you ride a bike...brought to you by Retronaut, and Gene Gable. To see the rest, I invite all of you to go to Retronaut's site. Enjoy!

Hollywood Graffiti- icons in spray paint

We went to the Arclight cinema in Hollywood the other day and saw the cool art the have. This time they have some cool multi-media art by Greg Auerbach. He took vintage newspapers and cut out articles that are related to certain movie stars or directors. He puts them together like a collage and then spray paints a stencil of famous film icons. For example, James Dean is spray painted over vintage newspaper clippings of ' rebellious, troubled, disenfranchised, and marginalized youth, car racing, the road game of chicken, and his life.' I put a close up of that one here. He also made one of Marilyn Monroe made with articles of 'tragic beauties, sex symbols, her marriages and blonde bombshells.' There was even a Clint Eastwood one with articles about ' the antihero, damnation, salvation, morality, the loner, redemption, cowboys and revenge.' It was amazing, but I don't think I'd have the heart to cut up a vintage newspaper!

How to make friends by Telephone

Have you ever gotten a phone call by someone that sounds rude or like they don't care? We think everyone needs to read this as a reminder of proper phone etiquette. Currently, with so much new technology, it's so easy to avoid one on one contact with others. We have become so impersonal with things like texting. Sure, it's a quick way to communicate, but it's so much nicer and thoughtful to call someone now and then. Perhaps it's something that'll vanish like cursive writing? For those of you who'd like to know how to make friends over the phone, here's how 40s style. Enjoy!
